Friends don’t let friends have boring drawstrings
Recently, a friend shared an awesome trick with me that instantly upgraded my hoodie game – replacing boring drawstrings with vibrant paracord! In this step-by-step guide, I’ll share the process I learned to give your hoodie a unique touch while injecting a burst of color. Paracord comes in many different multi-color patterns or solids, and many include reflective materials (safety first!). I found the perfect paracord on Amazon that made this DIY project a breeze! So, let’s dive in and personalize your hoodie together.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before we begin, make sure you have everything you need:
Hoodie with removable drawstrings
Colorful paracord (I used TECEUM Paracord in the Kalaidascope color)
Scissors
Lighter
Step 2: Remove Existing Drawstrings
Before diving into the replacement process, secure one end of the paracord to the existing drawstring still on your hoodie. Tie a square knot tightly to ensure a secure connection. This step ensures that you won’t accidentally lose the drawstring inside the hoodie channels during the transition. Now, carefully remove the existing drawstring, making sure the paracord is securely fastened to it. This allows you to easily pull the new paracord through the channels in a seamless process.
Step 3: Measure and Cut the Paracord
Use the old drawstring as a reference to measure and cut the paracord to your preferred length. Add a few extra inches for adjustments during the installation process.
Step 4: Seal the Ends
Melt the ends of the paracord with a lighter to prevent fraying. Quick passes near the flame should do the trick. Pinch the melted end to secure it.
Step 5: Adjust and Tie
With both ends through the channels, adjust the length of the paracord to your liking. Tie secure knots at each end, ensuring symmetry.
A barrel knot is a simple and secure way to finish off the ends of your paracord drawstrings. Follow the steps in this video to tie a barrel knot with the two ends of the paracord.
Conclusion
Voila! You’ve just learned the trick I picked up from a friend to transform your hoodie with colorful paracord drawstrings. This simple DIY upgrade adds a personal touch and a splash of color to your wardrobe. Check out TECEUM Paracord for a wide range of colors (camo, neon, patterns, solids, etc.) to suit your style. Now that I have approximately 97 feet of paracord left, I plan on transforming a few more hoodies!
